A Must Read: The "Yitav Lev" Asked His Holy Grandfather - "How is it possible that you didn't join Moshe Rabbeinu?" The important article - 'And They Shall Justify the Tzaddik' - sheds light on the harsh persecution against the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a
"To you, a fellow Breslover," begins one of the prominent Breslov Chassidim in the USA with a pained heart. "Thank God, I reached Breslov. I arrived because I was a seeker and a searcher, and Hashem (the Blessed Name) in His great mercy and kindness guided me until I reached Rabbeinu (Rebbe Nachman), thank God. Even after I reached Breslov and found the right path, nevertheless, from time to time, new issues and situations arise that require going out again to seek and search: which is the right path in which we should walk and tread? We will not stop being seekers and searchers to find the path of truth."

"Now we stand in one of these episodes, as the subject has arisen regarding Rabbi Eliezer ben Ettia (Rabbi Berland) n"y (may his light shine). Some of the prominent people in Breslov and many of my friends decided to go out and protest against him, some more and some less, and they are pushing me too to join the campaign. I thought about my ways, and in my heart, several thoughts and doubts arose. I will share those thoughts with you; perhaps you can help me clarify the matter, to fulfill what is said: 'Then those who fear Hashem spoke to one another.'" Then the author of the article continues and details his words, starting with the words of the Yismach Moshe zy"a (may his merit protect us).

A. A story from the holy Rabbi, the author of the Yismach Moshe zy"a.

The holy "Yismach Moshe" used to say that he remembered all his previous incarnations (gilgulim), and he remembered that he was among those who left Egypt and lived in the generation of the desert. His grandson, the "Yitav Lev" zy"a, asked him which camp he belonged to during the dispute between Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our teacher), peace be upon him, and Korach and his assembly—which side did he join?

He answered and said: "I remained neutral, in the middle, neither with Moshe Rabbeinu nor with Korach."

They asked him: "How is it possible? And how is it possible that you did not join Moshe Rabbeinu, peace be upon him?"

He answered them: "You have no conception of how Korach appeared...", thus ends the story.
"I heard the story and was terrified. I always thought there was no doubt in the world that if I had been there in the generation of the desert, I certainly would have been among the enthusiastic supporters of Moshe Rabbeinu, peace be upon him; I certainly would not have been, Heaven forbid, from the assembly of Korach. But the Yismach Moshe says he stood in the middle... and if so, what shall we say after him? If the Yismach Moshe did not know, from where would I know?"
It is very worthwhile to read the article; it sheds great light on the great mistake in the persecution of the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), and not only that. The article also shows how that same controversy against the Tzaddik returns every time anew and actually delays and postpones the Geulah (Redemption).
