A Woman of Valor is the Crown of Her Husband • The Daily Lesson from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Monday night, the 20th of MarCheshvan 5786, Parshat Chayei Sarah:
1. The Arabs want us to be in Gan Eden (Paradise), but we want to be in this world to perform more mitzvos (commandments)! 2. Now the girls say Tehillim (Psalms) until Chatzos (midnight) and then say Tikkun Chatzos (midnight lamentation). Tomorrow there is Yeshiva, so the boys will only say "By the Rivers of Babylon" at the point of Chatzos and go back to sleep. 3. Adah and Zillah wanted a get (divorce document) after 120 years. Beis Hillel says if she burned his food he can divorce her; Rabbi Akiva says if he found a woman more beautiful than her. And the explanation is that if this is what he blames on his wife, then he is not worthy of being married, and therefore he should divorce! 4. "A Woman of Valor is the crown of her husband" – the woman does everything in the house, the husband does nothing; if he doesn't learn [Torah], he is worth nothing. Whoever doesn't learn should work at Rami Levy (a supermarket chain). 5. Everyone should sit and learn Gemara (Talmud) for eight hours; they should learn the Sugya (topic) that even if one slaughters two signs [the trachea and esophagus], it is possible to live. Everyone should learn the "Ketzos HaChoshen" [a classic legal commentary] in Siman (section) 250. 6. Even after Avner stabbed him, Yoav could have stabbed him back, but the entire congregation fell at his feet and said to him, "Who will fight the Philistines for us?" So he gave in, and therefore he was buried in the Me'aras HaMachpelah (Cave of the Patriarchs). 7. The main thing is to learn Gemara. Everyone should learn Likutey Halachos (the magnum opus of Reb Noson of Breslov) with his wife – Hilchos Birkas HaReyach (Laws of the Blessing on Fragrance) 4.
