"And May Our Dwelling Be on the Heights of the Mountains Like Our Teacher Avraham..." • An Article for the Hillula of Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Nachman

Today, the 29th of Teves, the fifth night of Chanukah, is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of the Tzaddik who continued the golden lineage of our Holy Rebbe and the genius of our strength Moharnat—Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Nachman HaLevi Chazan of Tulchin, zy"a (may his merit protect us).

Before you is an article written today in honor of the Hillula (celebration of passing) by our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days):

B"sd, for His Name's sake. 29th of Kislev, the fifth night

YAHRTZEIT OF RABBI AVRAHAM BEN RABBI NACHMAN, ZT"L

Today is the greatest yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of the year, of a man who was never at home; rather, immediately after Havdalah (prayer marking the end of Shabbat), he would disappear until the lighting of the [Shabbat] candles. All week long, he was in places hidden from every person, places that no human eye nor the eye of a hawk had seen. He only practiced Hisbodedus (secluded prayer) day and night = 177 (the numerical value of 'Day and Night'), and he did not lose even a minute or even a second. He only cried out to Hashem day and night = 177 without stopping for a second. Through this, he merited to know the entire Torah in its entirety—the whole Shas (Talmud), the 14 volumes of the Rambam with the Kessef Mishneh, Lechem Mishneh, Mishneh LaMelech, Maggid Mishneh, Mahari Korkus, Rabbeinu Manoach, and Hagahos Maimoniyos. He knew all four parts of the Shulchan Aruch with the Shach, the Taz, Magen Avraham, Beis Shmuel, and Chelkas Mechokek, and all the commentators on all four parts of the Shulchan Aruch. He knew all four Turim with the Beis Yosef, Bach, and Darchei Moshe, and all the commentators on the four Turim. Likewise, he knew all of the Zohar, Etz Chaim, Tikkunei Zohar, and the Pri Etz Chaim, as well as all of Likutey Moharan, Likutey Halachos, Sippurei Maasiyos (The Tales of Rebbe Nachman), Shivchei HaRan (Praises of Rebbe Nachman), and Yemei Moharnat (The Days of Rabbi Nosson), and all the commentaries of the Rebbe's students. He reached such a level that he merited to compose a commentary rare in the reality of the Blessed Name, "Biur HaLikutim," such that anyone who reads this commentary on Likutey Moharan truly reaches the nullification of choice (bitul habechira), and his Yetzer Hara (evil inclination) is completely nullified until it no longer has any standing anywhere.

Therefore, let us all strengthen ourselves on this holy and awesome yahrtzeit to follow in his paths—the paved road to Beis El (the House of God). May our dwelling be on the heights of the mountains like our teacher Rabbi Avraham ben Rabbi Nachman zt"l (of blessed memory), and let us only practice Hisbodedus day and night in the mountains and hills, in the streams and valleys.
