Every Girl Can Merit That Her Candle Will Burn Her Entire Life • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is the full daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Monday night, the 26th of Sivan – the Hilula (anniversary of passing) of the Tanna (Sage of the Mishnah) Yonatan ben Uziel zy"a (may his merit protect us):

"Another nineteen seriously injured, ten killed—all this is because there are girls who did not lengthen their skirts and did not sew up the slit [in their clothing]. Every girl must know – [that she] needs to be either a teacher or a principal. From the 1st of Tammuz until the 1st of Elul is sixty days; every girl can complete all the material she missed in order to be accepted into 'Netivot HaChinuch' or 'Beer Miriam' [educational institutions]. Every girl has a lot of material she is missing; she needs to know mathematics, to know algebra, to know all the calculations. As Rashi brings a thousand times – a hundred times – a hundred times two is two hundred; from two hundred it becomes eight, sixteen, thirty-two, sixty-four, one hundred twenty-eight, two hundred twenty-eight, five hundred and twelve, one thousand twenty-four. Ten times is already a thousand, twenty is a million, thirty is a billion, forty is a thousand billion, fifty is a million billion, sixty is a trillion, seventy is a thousand trillion, eighty—you already reach a million trillion. At ninety, a billion trillion; at a hundred... one hundred and forty is... No priest in the world, no person, even Einstein, can perform these calculations that a simple Yeshiva student does. They reach a thousand billion trillion – more than Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our Teacher). For Yoav [a renowned figure of charity] would distribute charity, cans [of soda], popsicles, and ices to every family; every child would receive a can. Every holy Shabbat during 'Vayivarech David' (a prayer), they would receive a can from Yoav. So he merited that his blessings are a billion trillion times more than Moshe Rabbeinu, because every girl can merit that her blessings will be even greater. Like that prophetess, the wife of Uriah, who went from house to house to collect oil for three years. From every house she received a drop of oil, and if the oil was not enough, it burned on its own. Every woman can do this—'He who told the oil to burn will tell the vinegar [to burn].' The daughter of Rabbi Chanina ben Dosa poured vinegar [into the lamps] and it became oil. Every girl can merit that her candle will burn, just like with Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. It burned for seven days, but it could have burned for an entire lifetime. As [Rabbi Chanina ben Dosa] said. Rabbi Chanina Segan HaKohanim (the Deputy High Priest) said: 'In my time in the Holy Temple, there was a Menorah that burned for a whole year and did not go out.' Once, every woman merited that her candle would not go out. Every woman was a prophetess, like Serach bat Asher who danced [and sang]: 'Joseph is still alive and is king in Egypt, and he has two sons, Menashe and Ephraim'."
