"If Hashem Says to Honor the Other and Not Himself – It is a Sign He is True" • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is a summary of the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Tuesday night, the 5th of Adar, Parshas Tetzaveh:

Today marks 25 years for Be'er Miriam; a thousand girls studied there. In another three hours, at Chatzos (the midnight lamentation/prayer), the girls will recite Tehillim (Psalms) and the boys will study the Megillah (Scroll of Esther), three pages every day until Purim, when they will finish it. Haman was a miser; he didn't want to give seven days of holiday, but in the end, we start reading the Megillah on the 11th [of Adar], and the seudah (festive meal) is held close to sunset on the 17th, which will be at ten to six—that makes six days. All the girls are going to the party; a hundred thousand girls have passed through Be'er Miriam, and every girl needs to be a principal of a seminary. A girl has a million times more intelligence than a boy; it is written that Bruriah learned in one day what others learned in three years—from one end to the other, three hundred camels [worth of knowledge]. Tehillim (Psalms) and Divrei HaYamim (Chronicles) are only a third of what existed. All the girls need to know all the subjects by heart and become seminary principals; they will open schools in the kibbutzim and will not be in captivity. The girls wanted to celebrate on Simchas Torah, "and you shall rejoice in your festival"; everyone is now in Gan Eden (Paradise). "They went to their rest and left us to sigh"—we want them here. From the Zikim beach, they went straight to Gan Eden (Paradise); five hundred terrorists arrived. The army took all the weapons—an army of criminals. In Kissufim, there were only 15 bullets; they shot 15 terrorists and all five hundred fled, but in Zikim they killed everyone; they didn't know that the Shabbat protects them. Targum Yonatan ben Uziel [mentions this] in twelve places. The mule says, "All the kings of the earth shall praise You, for they have heard the words of Your mouth" (Psalms 138:4), because the mule upon which the kings ride says that all the kings heard the Ten Commandments. But the idols also said, "I am Hashem your G-d," and Pharaoh also said, "The Nile is mine, and I made it for myself," but no idol ever said to honor one's parents; only Hashem can say to honor one's parents. So they said, whoever says to honor the other person, it is a sign that He is true. Everyone should honor his wife; everyone should study with his wife. There are now three hours: the girls will recite Tehillim (Psalms), the boys will study six pages of Gemara (Talmud), and we will merit the complete Geulah (Redemption) speedily in our days, Amen!
