Last night, Wednesday, the eve of the 1st of Nissan—the day on which the soul of our holy Rebbe (Rebbe Nachman) descended into the world—the wedding celebration of the great-granddaughter of our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, took place. She is the daughter of his grandson, the Mashgiach (spiritual supervisor) of the 'Breslov - Chochma V'Daat' Yeshiva, the Chassid Rabbi Nachman Goldblum shlit"a, son of the Rav's son-in-law, the Chassid Rabbi Yehuda Asher Goldblum shlit"a, and son-in-law of the head of the 'Nachali Netzach' institutions, the Chassid Rabbi Shmuel Stern shlit"a. She married the excellent groom Nachman Fishel, may his light shine, son of the Chassid Rabbi Yaakov Fishel shlit"a, one of the prominent members of our community in the city of Modi'in Illit. The wedding was held at the Armonot Or halls in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem, with the participation of our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a.
The Chuppah (wedding ceremony) began at 8:00 PM, with the honored Chassid Rabbi Eliyahu Sukkot shlit"a serving as the Mesader Chuppah V'Kiddushin (officiant). Afterward, our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, was honored with reading the Ketubah (marriage contract). Following the breaking of the glass, The Rav placed ash on his head as is the custom (to remember the destruction of the Temple). For the first and second blessings, Rabbi Tzvi Fishel, the groom's grandfather, was honored. For the third blessing, Rabbi Menachem Aryeh Goldblum shlit"a, the bride's grandfather, was honored. For the fourth blessing, Rabbi Amikam Tanami shlit"a, the groom's grandfather, was honored. For the fifth blessing, the bride's grandfather, the Chassid Rabbi Shmuel Stern shlit"a, was honored. For the sixth blessing, Rabbi Yamin Hakim shlit"a, the groom's uncle, was honored. For the final blessing (Bracha Acharita), our teacher Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a was honored, and he recited the seventh blessing with a pleasant melody. After the Chuppah, our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, returned to his home for the Maariv (evening) prayer with a large crowd from the balcony, while still dressed in his Shabbos garments. After a prayer lasting nearly an hour, he entered his holy home, and at 11:10 PM, he departed to participate in the wedding celebration. At 11:50 PM, he entered the dance floor as hundreds of our community members, who had come to participate in the joy of the Tzaddik's house, danced and rejoiced in the joy of the groom and bride. After more than half an hour of dancing with a "flaming fire," our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, sat at his place at the head table. Then, the "Cossacks" entered with Cossack steps, and for over twenty minutes, the precious students of the 'Chochma V'Daat' Yeshiva performed stunts to gladden the groom and bride. At the end of the spectacular dance, they passed before our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, and received his blessing. Afterward, the "Seven Beggars" (referencing Rebbe Nachman's famous story) entered and danced to the sounds of the orchestra. At 12:50 AM, the Birkat HaMazon (Grace after Meals) and Sheva Brachos began, with the groom's father, Rabbi Yaakov Fishel shlit"a, honored with the invitation (Zimun) and the melody of 'Devai Haser.' Our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, was honored with the final blessing. After the Sheva Brachos, our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, descended from the head table again to the dance floor and began to dance with the groom for about forty minutes with vitality and enthusiasm, while the hundreds present also skipped and danced in honor of our teacher, The Rav shlit"a, in the joy of the Tzaddik's house. At 1:45 AM, he left the hall, accompanied by a royal convoy back to his holy home.
