One Must Bring a Silver Bowl to Rectify the One Hundred and Thirty Years of Adam HaRishon • Summary of the Lesson from the Melaveh Malkah of Parshas Vayakhel by the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented before you is a summary of topics from the lesson delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), during the fourth meal of Melaveh Malkah (the meal accompanying the departing Queen Sabbath) on the conclusion of the holy Sabbath, Parshas Pekudei - HaChodesh, 5785:
Rebbe Nachman says: Only to be attached to Hashem (God), may He be blessed; it is forbidden to divert one's mind even for a second from Hashem, like Eliyahu (Elijah) and Moshe (Moses) in the cleft of the rock. "Help me be a Jew" — we are not yet Jews. Now it is Rosh Chodesh (the New Month), we said "Ya'aleh V'Yavo" (the prayer for the New Month); now all the miracles occur — the splitting of the Red Sea, the Manna, the Well, and the Ten Commandments. From tomorrow morning, every day we read about the silver bowl [in the portion of the Princes' offerings]. They brought twelve silver bowls, each weighing one hundred and thirty [shekels]. Why are twelve bowls needed? Its weight of one hundred and thirty corresponds to the one hundred and thirty years [of separation] of Adam HaRishon (the first man). Elisha [the Prophet] needed to instill souls into the children, not to send the bears against them. Everyone needs to study seven pages [of Gemara]. Everyone should learn about "the deaf person" — that the heart becomes deaf. Every girl should go home in another five minutes and wash the whole house. Extend the day by an hour, finish the Tehillim (Psalms) and Tikkun Chatzos (the Midnight Lament). It is possible to travel to Chevron (Hebron) and Kever Rachel (Rachel's Tomb). So, Adam HaRishon did not accomplish anything [during those years]; his grandson reached the age of 695, and then suddenly he said, "I created the world," and billions believed him. The Asara Ma'amaros (Ten Utterances) says he maintained the lie for eight years. After he knew he had lied, it no longer helped; half the world had already sunk. In the Caribbean, under the sea, there are entire mountains; it all sank, a third of the world sank. Thus, Adam HaRishon accomplished nothing, and the whole world was lost. Therefore, the silver bowl rectifies Adam HaRishon, who had accomplished nothing. Until Avraham Avinu (our forefather Abraham) came and began to rectify the world after one hundred and ninety-two years; he was the only one who did not worship idols. Therefore, everyone brings a lamb — the Korban Pesach (Passover sacrifice) — to rectify all the idol worship and all the sins. Until [page] 26, that is one hundred and eighty-two pages; one must study it all.
