Prayer for Shadarim (Emissaries) Speaking about the Merit of Zikui HaRabim (Bringing Merit to the Many) – From the Mouth of Our Master and Teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

BS"D LSh"M LSh"B 76

Master of the World, All-Powerful, grant us merit in our going out to the roads, that all the Angels of the [Divine] Chariot—Michael, Gabriel, Nuriel, Uriel, Raphael—should accompany us at every step and pace. And may seven hundred thousand lions guard us on all the roads, drawn from the Lion in the Chariot. These correspond to the 370 myriads of lights with which You crowned Eve. This is the secret of the story involving Rabbi Eliezer and Rabbi Yehoshua who were traveling on a ship, the secret of the Surrounding Lights (Orot Makkifim), the 370 myriads of lights that Rabbi Eliezer attained while he was sleeping. And Rabbi Eliezer merited to see how Rabbi Yehoshua was revealing the lights of the Leviathan, because Rabbi Eliezer, during the time of sleep, would attain all these lights in the blink of an eye. For Rabbi Eliezer is an acronym [in Hebrew] for Eyin Lo Ra'ata Elokim Zulatecha ("No eye has seen, O God, besides You").

Therefore, grant us merit in these holy journeys to guard the eyes, and to merit the lights of the Leviathan, as it is said, "And his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn." And may all our prayers be soft [gentle], like the prayer of the Leviathan, as it is said, "Will he speak supplications to you? Will you speak soft words to him? Will you draw him with a hook... and cannon stones are considered as straw?" So too, may we stand in all these holy journeys with absolute guarding of the eyes (shmiras einayim). And through this, may we merit like Joseph the Tzaddik to [the aspect of] "A charming son is Joseph, a charming son to the eye." And immediately, may we merit to come with an abundance of lights, myriads upon myriads in materiality and spirituality. And may we lack nothing—neither us, nor our offspring, nor the offspring of our offspring, nor all of Israel—from now until forever.
