Prayer for the Molad of the Month of Av 5777 from Morinu HaRav HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Master of the World, All-Powerful, at the Molad (New Moon) of the month of Av, on the night of the second day [Monday night], at 22 hours, 39 minutes, and 14 parts. This is the secret of King David, peace be upon him. For in the month of Av, the Beis HaMikdash (Temple) was destroyed, and the 370 myriads of lights that shone in the Beis HaMikdash were concealed, and the 405 severities (Gevuros) that destroyed the Beis HaMikdash prevailed.

And now, on Shabbos Nachamu (Comfort), which corresponds to Manoach, the father of Samson—who, by saying "she is right in my eyes," brought about the terrible destruction. For on Shabbos Nachamu, we ascend to the Dikna Kadisha (Holy Beard), the Ancient of all Ancients, the Most Concealed of all Concealed, the secret of Adam Kadmon (Primordial Man), the secret of Amar Neke (Pure Wool), for that is where the soul of Amram originated. If he had not divorced Yocheved, he would have drawn down illumination from the hairs of Adam Kadmon upon all of Egypt, and they would not have drowned in the sea; they would have returned in teshuvah (repentance), and we would have recited the complete Hallel.

But Hashem wanted otherwise, and He wanted Amram to do teshuvah, but he did so only externally and not internally. Therefore, in Egypt, they did not return in teshuvah and drowned in the sea. However, Pharaoh himself performed true, internal teshuvah, and merited to become the King of Nineveh and brought everyone back in teshuvah.

For then, on Tisha B'Av, all the 405 severities are transformed into 370 myriads of lights, just as before the sin. For then the "Head of all Heads," the "Head that is not a Head," the "Head of All" is revealed through that Hidden, Concealed, and Sequestered One of all. This is the secret of "A crown of hair walks in his guilt" (Psalms 68:22), the secret of "And for the crown of the nazir of his brothers" (Genesis 49:26), the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead. As it is said, "And Jacob took for himself a stick of fresh poplar (livneh), hazel (luz), and chestnut (armon)." 'Luz' is white (Lavan), and 'Armon' is red (Adom)—to connect white (Chessed/Kindness) with red (Gevurah/Severity). For the main service on Tisha B'Av is to draw the Yesod (Foundation) of Adam Kadmon, which is the aspect of Mordechai, into the Yesod of Zeir Anpin (The Small Face), and then a great abundance called Or Ein Sof (Light of the Infinite) is drawn down.

For on Tisha B'Av, when the Gid HaNasheh (Sciatic Nerve) is strengthened, we merit "and it was turned around" (Esther 9:1). And 370 myriads of lights [are drawn] from the secret of "And for the crown of the nazir of his brothers," from the secret of the 8 Hivarta (White Strands of the Beard). From there comes the soul of Terach—Tav-Reish (600) myriads drawn from the Chet (8) Hivarta. From there, Keter (Crown) and Avira Dachya (Pure Air) are drawn to the Mocha Stima (Concealed Brain) of Arich Anpin (The Long Face). For all the 7 Kings together with King Hadar are clarified by the Mocha Stima, the Ancient of Ancients, the Concealed of all Concealed, which shine into the 13 Tikkunei Dikna (Rectifications of the Beard), which are the 13 Attributes of Mercy.

And then Mashiach ben David will be revealed, who is called "Migdal Eder" (Tower of the Flock). From Migdal Eder, which is the gematria of Rachel Leah, who are revealed through the submission of the King of Arad, the gematria of Rachel Leah—the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead.

And then the verse is fulfilled: "Deep calls to deep at the noise of Your waterfalls"; "The earth shall open and salvation shall bear fruit"; "He leads His glorious arm at the right hand of Moshe"; "And I will betroth you to Me forever; and I will betroth you to Me in righteousness, and in justice, and in kindness, and in mercy; and I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know Hashem." This is the secret of "He leads His glorious arm at the right hand of Moshe," "From His right hand, a fiery law for them." For Ben Azzai, Rabbi Abahu, Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Yehoshua, Yonatan ben Uziel, Rabbi Elazar ben Arach, and all his colleagues—all were surrounded by flames of fire during their study. For they attained the Nekuda Stima Ila'ah (Supreme Concealed Point) from where all the fire comes—which had been transformed into the fire of lusts that destroyed the Beis HaMikdash.

For the Molad falls in the middle of the Three Weeks, which corresponds to the Luz bone, and corresponds to the Luz tree—the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead. For in the city of Luz, the Angel of Death has no permission to pass. Therefore, the Three Weeks correspond to the Luz tree, in the secret of "And behold, in the morning, behold it was Leah," to where Yosef ascended, in the secret of "And for the crown of the nazir of his brothers." Therefore, the tribe of Gad, from whom comes Elijah the Prophet, may he be remembered for good, merits the blessing "He tears the arm, also the crown (scalp)."

For on Tisha B'Av, the 370 myriads of lights drawn from the 8 Hivarta return, and all the 405 severities that caused the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash are rectified. For then, on Tisha B'Av, the secret of His Essence, blessed be He, is revealed. For one must nullify the 100 tears of Sisera's mother, and the three tears of Esau, in the secret of "And You have given them tears to drink in a third measure" (Psalms 80:6). And the miracle was that the third tear did not fall but dried upon his cheek; therefore, the Third Temple that will be built now at the conclusion of Tisha B'Av will never be destroyed.

For Mashiach is called 'Yinon', for only he can rectify and transform the inverted Nuns, in the secret of 'Arise and do not fall again,' "Look from the peak of Amana." For all our perceptions until the Resurrection of the Dead are in the secret of "And you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen." Only Rabbi Akiva merited the perception of Face-to-Face, because they combed his flesh with iron combs, and he attained the Shin of the Tefillin.

For the secret of the Gid HaNasheh (Sciatic Nerve) is the secret of Tisha B'Av, the secret of Nadav and Avihu, the secret of Pinchas. Pen (Lest) corresponds to Nadav; Chas (Spare) corresponds to Avihu. For the Sciatic Nerve is without any moisture, and it hints to the terrible blemishes of the Covenant (Bris) that caused the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash. For on Tisha B'Av the Beis HaMikdash was destroyed, and it is built immediately by fire. Just as the Arab who said to the Jew, "Sit on the ground and weep, for from the lowing of your cow I see that at this moment the Beis HaMikdash is going up in flames." And after he sat on the ground, immediately he said to him, "Arise, for from the lowing of your cow it appears that Mashiach has been born right now at this moment."

For on Tisha B'Av, the 8 Hivarta are revealed through the first 8 days of Av, in the secret of 'Amar Neke', the secret of Amram, father of Moshe, whose soul shines in completeness at the Molad of the month of Av. For the hairs of Amar Neke descend in balance (Shikula), from Adam Kadmon to the Skull of Atika, and from the Skull of Atika to the Skull of Arich Anpin, and from there to Abba and Imma, and from there to Zeir Anpin. For in the strand of hair that is drawn from the Mocha Stima and spreads into 32 paths—which are the 32 paths of the Act of Creation, the 32 [times the name] Elohim appears—therefore they are long and smooth, until they reach the inner point of the "Bride of Moshe."

For the Holy One, Blessed is He, cast two tears into the Great Sea, from which comes the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash. For the judgments, which are the two tears, are Red (Sumka) and Dark Blue (Tichla). And Tichla is the strong color, strong judgment, which caused the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash. Only the Techelet (blue thread) in the Tzitzit and the Techelet in the Priestly Garments can sweeten this. "And through this the maiden comes to the King's house" in garments of purple (Argaman) and Techelet. From this the sash of the High Priest is made, which elevates the Malchut (Kingship) in the straight line of Zeir Anpin, in the secret of "When you raise the lamps toward the face of the Menorah, the seven lamps shall give light." For on the 7th of Av, the Menorah of the Beis HaMikdash is completed.

For at midnight (Chatzos), the Holy One, Blessed is He, roams through 18,000 worlds, and the Tzaddik, who is the aspect of David King of Israel, alive and enduring, awakens before the Holy One, Blessed is He, and unites with Him. Therefore, David merited eternal life, for during his life he did not miss Chatzos even once. For David had his harp which would play by itself every midnight, and he drew all his melodies from the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), 'The Well of Miriam.' For the Kinneret is the violin (Kinnor) of Eretz Yisrael which awakens the Geulah (Redemption), in the secret of "Look from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Snir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards."

For the Techelet which is in the Sea of Kinneret is the portion of Zevulun, who "eats all and destroys all," and the Kinneret—the secret of David's harp—destroys all the kelipos (husks), in the merit of Yosef HaTzaddik, within whom the angel Matat was impregnated. Therefore it is said of him, "And he is a youth (Na'ar)." For regarding the Malchut it is said, "Linen and purple are her clothing." Linen refers to the garments of the High Priest on Yom Kippur, and Purple (Argaman) refers to the 5 angels that surround the High Priest: Uriel, Rafael, Gavriel, Michael, Nuriel. And Nuriel hovers over all four, in the secret of "And upon my head is the Shechinah of Kel." For there are 6 steps to the Throne, and 4 supports, which together are 10, in the secret of the Yud of Sarai, through whose power Joshua conquers the entire Land of Israel and cuts off the kelipos.

And this is what Balak said, "As the ox licks up the grass of the field"—this is Yosef, "Firstborn of his ox, majesty is his," the angel Matat, the coffin of Yosef which goes before the camp of Israel. For the Sea of Kinneret is comprised of seven streams, which transform Red to Techelet, and through this, they destroy all the nations of the world. "And they shall afflict Asshur and afflict Ever," "And he shall smash the corners of Moab and destroy (karkar) all the children of Seth." 'Pe'ah' (Corner) is gematria 'Karkar' [86 = 'Elohim' = 300]. For "He calms the sea and its waves roar," in the secret of "Deep calls to deep at the noise of Your waterfalls," in the secret of the "Head that is not a Head," in the secret of Tisha B'Av, the "Head that is not known," the secret of Atika Kadisha (The Holy Ancient One).
