Rabbi Berland shlit"a Visits the Ancient Synagogue in Jericho

On Friday of Parshat Emor, our teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) arrived for an emotional visit to the ancient synagogue, 'Shalom Al Yisrael' (Peace upon Israel) in Jericho. According to tradition, this is where Yehoshua (Joshua) met the angel who said to him: "For the place upon which you stand is holy, and Yehoshua did so" (Joshua 5:13-15). The Rav shlit"a sang the chapters of Tehillim (Psalms) of the Tikkun HaKlali (The General Rectification) together with the public and prayed for the People of Israel.
The ancient 'Shalom Al Yisrael' synagogue was discovered in archaeological excavations conducted about 80 years ago, revealing a mosaic floor measuring 10 by 13 meters. The site received its name due to the illustrations and the inscription "Shalom Al Yisrael" found within it. In the center of the mosaic is a circle featuring a seven-branched Menorah, with a Shofar (ram's horn) to its right, a Lulav (palm branch) to its left, and the Hebrew inscription "Shalom Al Yisrael" beneath it.
In the Book of Joshua, it is written that on the eve of the conquest of Jericho, Yehoshua was walking near the walls when he encountered the angel who told him: "For the place upon which you stand is holy, and Yehoshua did so" (Joshua 5:15). The 'Shalom Al Yisrael' synagogue dates back to the period of the Jerusalem Talmud (third century) and was built by a holy community that lived by the values of Judaism. It is situated near Tel Jericho and the Spring of Elisha.
