Rabbi Yehuda Zerachia Segal zt"l on the Holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a: "They Don't Even Reach His Ankles"

"When they signed against the Rav shlit"a (may he live long and good days) and I spoke about it with Rabbi Segal, and I mentioned one of the signatories, Rabbi Segal zt"l (of blessed memory) said to me: 'He doesn't even reach his ankles. Where is he and where is Rabbi Berland? How can you compare them? These are two different worlds.' And Rabbi Segal zt"l said these things about a person whom Rabbi Segal greatly respected. On another occasion, the Rav gave me 'mussar' (ethical rebuke) that I do not sufficiently honor Rabbi Berland shlit"a," so related R' Michael Gol, head of the 'Maginei Eretz' institutions, to the Breslov 'Information Line.'
R' Michael Gol, head of the 'Maginei Eretz' institutions and a student of our teacher, the holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, who was also close to Rabbi Yehuda Zerachia Segal zt"l—a rabbi and Kabbalist who served as the Rabbi of the Kiryat Shalom neighborhood in Tel Aviv for about fifty years—told the Information Line about Rabbi Segal's zt"l attitude toward our teacher, the holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a.
"I was a frequent guest in the home of Rabbi Segal zt"l, and he was at my wedding; it was there, in fact, that he met our teacher, the holy Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. Rabbi Segal zt"l said to me: 'My acquaintance with Rabbi Berland shlit"a in isgalya (revealed form)—there were also acquaintances in iskasya (hidden form)—was at your wedding; that is your merit.'"
"Rabbi Segal zt"l told me that wherever he goes, the chitzonim (external spiritual forces of impurity) distance themselves fifty meters, but at your wedding, within a radius of 2,000 meters, there were no chitzonim at all."
"When they signed against the Rav shlit"a and I spoke about it with Rabbi Segal, and I mentioned one of the signatories, Rabbi Segal zt"l said to me: 'He doesn't even reach his ankles. Where is he and where is Rabbi Berland? How can you compare them? These are two different worlds.' And Rabbi Segal zt"l said these things about a person whom Rabbi Segal greatly respected. On another occasion, the Rav gave me 'mussar' (ethical rebuke) that I do not sufficiently honor Rabbi Berland shlit"a."
"The Rav takes upon himself great bizyonos (humiliations) for all of us, and we must appreciate this and exert ourselves for the sake of the Rav shlit"a."
