On Monday, 22 Av, Parashat Re’eh, in the morning hours, Gavriel Eliyahu Chaim of the Gal family, the only brother-in-law of Moreinu HaRav Eliezer Berland shlit”a (the husband of the Rav’s sister), passed away.  The Rav shlit”a came to take part in the funeral, which took place in the “Sde Yehoshua” cemetery in Haifa.

Moreinu HaRav shlit”a, who arrived at the burial in the afternoon, delivered a few words of eulogy about his brother-in-law.  The Rav shlit”a spoke of his greatness, that he merited to establish a glorious Jewish family while keeping a religious way of life despite all the challenges.  Thanks to him, Haifa and the Neve Sha’anan neighborhood have become more Haredi.  The Rav mentioned that when they were children, there were no Haredim at all in Haifa, and in the merit of his parents, as well as his brother-in-law who insisted on keeping a religious lifestyle, Haifa has become more and more Haredi.  The Rav shlit”a added that in Judaism, there is no such thing as death; the soul endures, and he left the life of this world for the eternal life.
