The Chassidic Sage Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Felberbaum zt"l Relates: "This is How I Drew Close to Breslov"

The Mashpia (spiritual mentor), the Chassidic Sage Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Felberbaum zt"l (of blessed memory), who passed away last week, previously interviewed for the 'Breslov Information Line.' He shared how he drew close to Breslov, how he brought dozens of young men from the Ponevezh Yeshiva closer to the path, the warm relationship he shared with the giants of Israel such as Maran (our teacher) Rabbi Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz zt"l and Maran Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman zt"l, and his thoughts on the machlokes (controversy) raging within Breslov in recent years.

Last week, the Mashpia (spiritual mentor), the Gaon (genius) and Chassid, Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Felberbaum zt"l, one of the greatest figures in drawing people closer to Breslov Chassidus, passed away at the age of 72—the numerical value of Chesed (kindness) at the time of his passing.

In his youth, he studied at the Ponevezh Yeshiva, where he first drew close to Breslov Chassidus. His rabbis at the Ponevezh Yeshiva predicted greatness for him. While still in the yeshiva, he brought his fellow students closer to Breslov, engaging in Kiruv (outreach) and bringing many souls back in complete teshuvah (repentance). He was considered one of the most prominent figures in bringing people to Breslov Chassidus.

He was a profound Talmid Chacham (Torah scholar), a great Gaon (genius), a servant of Hashem (God), and a man who endured great suffering with grace. He was a supreme orator and a renowned Mashpia (spiritual mentor) who spoke extensively about Rebbe Nachman. Throughout his life, he radiated emunah (faith) and bitachon (trust in Hashem) to those around him and was deeply connected to the teachings of our holy Rebbe, Rebbe Nachman of Breslov zy"a (may his merit protect us). All his days, he sanctified the Rebbe's name in the world and fled from machlokes (controversy).

He was one of the founders of the city of Modi'in Illit over twenty years ago, where he resided and established his place of prayer at the 'Beis Aharon' Breslov synagogue on Mesilat Yosef Street. Recently, he was hospitalized in intensive care due to a complicated infection. Many prayers were offered for his refuah sheleimah (complete healing), and this morning he returned his soul to its Creator.
