The Great Mitzvah of Pidyon Shvuyim to Save the Avrech Natan Amar, Who is in Detention in Ukraine

An Important Announcement and a Great Mitzvah That Stands Before Us

A Chassidic avrech (young Torah scholar) belonging to the Breslov Chassidus, who goes by the name Natan Amar shlit"a (may he live long and good days), was involved in a serious car accident in Ukraine. The accident occurred while the avrech was traveling in a vehicle in Ukraine along with his wife and child. In the second vehicle involved in the accident, three local citizens were seriously injured and ultimately passed away.

The local police, known for their antisemitism, arrested the avrech on charges of being responsible for the accident. Currently, he is being held under very harsh detention conditions in an antisemitic Ukrainian detention center, without legal representation and without kosher food. Furthermore, they intend to keep him there for a long period of time.

With the help of lawyers specializing in this matter, it will be possible to release him, but this involves a payment of over fifty thousand dollars.

This is a mitzvah (commandment) of Pidyon Shvuyim (redeeming captives) of the highest order; in the Ukrainian prison, one undergoes truly great suffering. By the instruction of the Rabbis shlit"a (may they live long and good days), everyone is asked to contribute a sum of money—it is also possible to use ma'aser (tithe) funds—for the sake of the mitzvah of 'Pidyon Shvuyim.' In doing so, we will help in saving the avrech Natan Amar.
