The Heavenly Beings Rejoiced • The Ceremony of Dedicating a Torah Scroll to the 'Shuvu Banim - Nechamat Zion' Institutions

An uplifting ceremony took place last week in our holy community with the dedication of a Torah scroll (Hachnasas Sefer Torah) donated by the collective of the Jewish people to the Breslov 'Shuvu Banim - Nechamat Zion' institutions.

The Torah scroll dedication ceremony took place on Wednesday, Rosh Chodesh Sivan (the first day of the month of Sivan)—the month in which the Torah was given to the People of Israel. It opened with the ceremony of completing the writing of the letters in the sanctuary of the "Breslov Chochma V'Daat" Yeshiva, with the participation of the community's rabbis and the masses of the House of Israel. Upon the completion of the final letter, those present burst into songs of joy and spiritual awakening for the completion of the Torah, offering thanks to Hashem (the Creator) for this great merit.

Afterward, the procession set out with song and dance toward the Beis Medrash (study hall) of the Rav shlit"a (Rabbi Berland). The Torah scroll was carried under an ornate chuppah (canopy), accompanied by a large crowd in great joy. The procession was accompanied by a Torah dedication vehicle decorated with beautiful ornaments and crowns, which played holy songs and added to the atmosphere of spiritual elevation. The route of the procession went from the Yeshiva sanctuary on Shmuel HaNavi Street, through Shivtei Yisrael, until Ido HaNavi Street—where the new scroll was greeted by other Torah scrolls with powerful singing and sweeping dances. At 8:15 PM, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a came out onto the balcony of his home, joining the celebration with dances of deveikus (spiritual attachment) and holy enthusiasm. Later, he even took the holy Torah scroll himself and danced with it in honor of the Torah and for the merit of the People of Israel. After nearly an hour, the Rav shlit"a gave a signal, and the crowd began reciting "Mizmor L'David Havu L'Hashem Bnei Elim" (Psalm 29). The Torah scroll was brought into the Aron Kodesh (Holy Ark) amidst a large assembly and the sound of singing, accompanied by the prayer "May this hour be an hour of mercy and a time of favor before You." With feelings of holiness and transcendence, the Rav shlit"a continued with the Maariv (evening) prayer in a melodious chant. After the Maariv prayer, the procession continued toward the new home of the Torah scroll—in the sanctuary of the Kollel HaHora'ah (rabbinic leadership institute) of the 'Shuvu Banim - Nechamat Zion' institutions.
