The Piercing Words of Rabbi Salmanovich shlit"a – "The Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a Has No Time to Relate to Those Who Persecute Him"
"We must delve very deeply into the path of our teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a," begins the Rabbi and Chassid, Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Salmanovich shlit"a, one of the chosen influencers of Breslov in our generation, in his fiery and sharp words regarding those who persecute Rabbi Berland shlit"a. "The holy Zohar says that in reality, Abel defeated Cain, even though he was killed by his hands. And one must understand: Why didn't Abel kill Cain when he could already see that Cain wanted to harm him? But there is a great matter in this, for if Abel had killed Cain, there would certainly have been no revival."
"For from Abel came Moshe Rabbeinu, and the Levites issued forth who did not sin and occupied themselves with Torah all the time. If Abel had killed Cain, all this good would not have emerged from him. Because Abel is from the side of Mercy; he needs to be compassionate, and he had mercy on Cain even though he knew that Cain wanted to harm him. From this came the entire chain of mercy, for Moshe Rabbeinu was the most merciful of all."

"From this, it is understood that those who fight against the Tzaddik (The Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a)—who is the man who wants to bring the Geulah (Redemption)—are in the aspect of people called 'Bnei Niddah' (children conceived in impurity), meaning, a force of impurity has grasped them. For if a person has not yet purified his heart, then he has an aspect of impurity. And this impurity is what causes a person to dispute the Tzaddik. Just as Rebbe Nachman says about one who raises his hand against 'his peace-makers'—meaning, those who occupy themselves with making peace between Israel and their Father in Heaven, but who actually bring the Geulah—he is called a profaner of Hashem's covenant. In contrast to this, from the Tzaddik's conduct and his pure deeds, one sees how holy and pure he is."

"Abel sees the good point in Cain, because he knows that in the souls issuing from Cain there is a spark of holiness that needs to be clarified. And even though there is much evil in them, it is possible to purify these souls and include them in the holiness of Israel. And this is exactly the holy conduct of Rabbi Berland shlit"a. I cannot even speak of such a Tzaddik, for there has barely been a Tzaddik like him for hundreds of years—the awesome devotions of Hashem that he performs."

"This is the secret: the Tzaddik has mercy on Cain even though he sees that he could, so to speak, destroy all of Haredi Jewry. And here comes a big 'But,' because this entire reality could have existed more than five thousand seven hundred years ago, but today we no longer have time for Abel (the Tzaddik of Truth) to die and for Seth to come after him, etc. Therefore, Rabbi Berland shlit"a does what he does—meaning, he wakes us up by asking us to pray, to say the Tikkun HaKlali, etc. Because we are right before the Geulah, and only a few minutes remain of the exile."

"We have already passed through so many exiles and sufferings since the descent into Egypt until today; there is no more time for exiles and the death of the wicked. As [Hashem] said to Abraham our Father, 'Sit at My right'—as if to say to him, it is not the way of Judaism to throw arrows and perform wonders, even if the dust turned into arrows and swords. Rather, Hashem tells Abraham to sit, study Torah, and pray."

"We have also seen 'nuclear' [immense] miracles with Rabbi Berland shlit"a, which does not surprise us at all after we know how much he worked and broke his nature. But, we truly see this with Rabbi Berland shlit"a, that he does not try to take revenge or harm those who persecute him. Rather, he sits and learns and teaches Torah with deep analysis. They persecute him, and at the same time, he teaches a class in 'Ktzot HaChoshen' [complex Halachic text]; he has no time to relate to them at all, it does not interest him."

"Nothing exists for him other than Godliness. Not a second passes that Rabbi Berland shlit"a does not unify Hashem, may He be blessed. I was in the Rav's room in Beitar during the hardest years when they persecuted him, and hanging opposite him were three names of Havayah [the Tetragrammaton]—on the right, on the left, and in front. Throughout the entire class, Rabbi Berland shlit"a moves his head between the three holy names. And if that were not enough, he forms the name Havayah with his fingers incessantly, even during times of deep study."

"Rabbi Berland is not a community Rabbi, but rather the Tzaddik HaDor (Tzaddik of the Generation) who needs to arrange all matters in preparation for the Geulah. The Rav has been screaming for years that we need to bring all the Nation of Israel back in teshuvah (repentance). And we, in our work, need to help him finish the rectifications for the Geulah."
