A Lesson in the Holy Residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland

Last night, Wednesday, Parshas Tzav-Parah - the night of the 18th of Adar II, our community members (Anshei Shlomeinu) from the city of Beit Shemesh entered for a lesson (shiur) in the residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a. The Rav shlit"a delivered a lesson to them for approximately forty minutes; before you is a summary of the lesson:

The Rav shlit"a began the lesson regarding the questions that Eliezer had for Avraham Avinu (our forefather Abraham), who sent him to take a wife for Yitzchak (Isaac) specifically from the worst family in the world—where the father was Besuel and the brother was Lavan the Aramean. Afterward, he spoke about the Talmudic topic (sugya) of whether "his fire is like his arrows" (meaning one is responsible for damage caused by fire as if they shot an arrow) or "like his property" (meaning responsibility for damage caused by one's possessions). Then he told the story of how Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz zt"l arrived in Uman at the end of his days, and how he promised that whoever would take him to Uman would be given his portion in the World to Come (Olam HaBa). He further told awesome stories about the wondrous service of Hashem (divine service) of the great Breslov elders of previous generations. Moving from one subject to another, he proceeded to discuss the concept of "sharpening before clarifying" (chiduda kodem l'libuna - a method of Talmudic study) and, of course, spoke about the story where Rabbah "slaughtered" Rabbi Zeira (a miraculous Talmudic account of a Purim feast). And he greatly encouraged the study of the Gemara (Talmud). He continued to delve into the topics of "Merubah" (the laws of multiple payments for theft) and "a kav in four cubits" (laws regarding finding lost objects) with great expansion and further detail. During this, he shared a new insight (chiddush) that the phrase "Eilu Metziot" (These are the found objects) has the same numerical value (Gematria) as "Rebbe Nachman," hinting at the words of Rebbe Nachman that all lost items are found with the Tzaddik. Afterward, he spoke about the youths who were killed in the fatal accident about two weeks ago, specifically mentioning Nachman Wazana z"l, who used to encourage all the young men to break their impure devices (unfiltered smartphones). At the conclusion of the lesson, he returned to the beginning regarding Eliezer, the servant of Avraham, explaining that in the merit of Avraham seemingly shaming him, and Eliezer accepting the humiliations (bizyonos) with love, he merited to enter Gan Eden (Paradise) while still in his physical body.
