A Lesson in the Residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

On Monday of Parshat Tazria, the eve of the 1st of Nissan, the New Year for Kings, the leaders of the youth groups (Bnei HaNe'urim) entered the residence of the Rav (Rabbi Berland) shlit"a to hear words of encouragement and guidance in the service of Hashem (avodas Hashem) on how to conduct themselves with the young flock.

The Rav shlit"a began the lesson with the topic of the laws of firstborns (Bechoros). Afterward, he spoke about current events (inyana d'yoma), mentioning that they left Gaza, and in that merit, with Hashem's help, the Hiloula (celebration of the passing of a Tzaddik) on Lag BaOmer in Meron will take place as scheduled. He then discussed the dispute between the Rambam (Maimonides) and the Ramban (Nachmanides) regarding why the people of Shechem were liable for death, citing their words at great length. Following this, he told several stories of the great leaders of past generations. Later, he spoke about Parshat Va'eschanan, explaining that Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses our Teacher) offered 515 prayers for everything that the Jewish people would go through throughout all generations.

He then delved into the matter of Samson the Hero (Shimshon HaGibbor), who burned all the Philistine fields because they kidnapped his wife. During these words, he spoke sharply about the importance of domestic harmony (Shalom Bayis), emphasizing that a person must know that even if a plate or something similar breaks in the house, Shalom Bayis is more precious than any plate or vase.

Afterward, he spoke about the burial of Rachel, and how Yosef (Joseph) questioned his father as to why he buried her specifically on the roadside, while Leah was brought to Chevron. Yaakov (Jacob) replied to him, "It was all according to the Divine word!" And indeed, today we see that this is the case, for if the grave were even a hundred meters further toward Bethlehem, it would no longer be possible to easily come and pray at the grave of Mama Rochel (Mother Rachel) with ease.
