How Did Yaakov Have Clothes Even Though Eliphaz Stole Them? • The Daily Lesson

Before you is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Thursday night, the eve of the 16th of MarCheshvan 5786, Parshas Vayeira:

1. Today, the 15th of Cheshvan, was the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of the Chazon Ish (Rabbi Avraham Yeshaya Karelitz zt"l). I saw an article in the eulogies regarding (-) that the killing of Hevel (Abel) by the hand of Kayin (Cain) was on the 15th of MarCheshvan.
2. The Zionists intentionally closed Meron so that people would die.
3. Adam HaRishon (the first man) prostrated himself on the grave of Hevel. This was the only grave at that time.
4. There is another opinion that it occurred in Teves, based on the verse "On this very day, the king of Babylon laid siege to Jerusalem," which refers to the Tenth of Teves; on that same day was the killing of Hevel by Kayin.
5. Enosh, at the age of nine hundred and sixty-five, became confused and began to think that he created the world.
6. How did Lavan know where Yaakov (Jacob) fled? Rather, he asked the terafim (idols) "Where is Yaakov?" Rachel stole the terafim from him. Immediately, the wicked Eliphaz, who was the son of Esav, came, and Yaakov gave him all his belongings, leaving him with only his staff. This is the meaning of the verse, "For with my staff I crossed this Jordan" (Genesis 32:11). Eliphaz took all his clothes and did not leave him even a single garment! Miraculously, a wealthy horseman arrived to bathe in the Jordan while Yaakov was there without clothes, and then the horseman drowned. When Yaakov realized he had drowned, he took his clothes and his horse, and thus he arrived at Lavan's house with clothes and a horse.
