The Reason Moses is Called by the Name Bithiah Gave Him • The Daily Lesson from
Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented below is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Monday night, the 17th of Tevet 5786, Parshas Shemos:
- In another five minutes, the women's convention begins; all married women must go to the convention, because the Geulah (Redemption) will come through the women.
- It is written in the Noam Elimelech that at a Bris (circumcision), everyone shouts in order to give names, but one must give the name of a tzaddik (righteous person).
- But only the name given by Bithiah remained, who called Moses—Moshe—because this was achieved through mesirus nefesh (self-sacrifice).
- Whoever is named after a tzaddik, the tzaddik protects him.
- Sanhedrin 19b: David betrothed two sisters. The Gemara (Talmud) explains two resolutions: either she passed away, or Doeg annulled the kiddushin (betrothal).
- One must understand how David betrothed Michal by killing Goliath, for that is not worth a perutah (a small coin of minimal value).
- Paltiel ben Laish was with Michal for 9 years.
- It is forbidden for a person to be with another woman for even a single second. Rabbi Ishmael the Kohen Gadol (High Priest) had the skin of his face flayed to effect a tikkun (rectification) for the matter of Joseph being with the wife of Potiphar and the matter of Paltiel being with Michal, even though they did not sin.
- Everyone should study Likutey Halachos, Laws of a Guarantor (Hilchos Arev) 5, with his wife. As for the sons, whoever does not have a Kollel (institute for advanced Torah study) should study all night and travel to Chevron or Shechem.
