Through Building a Synagogue, We Revive the Dead

These are his holy words:

Now we are building a synagogue. It is a Tabernacle in place of a synagogue—it is a level of the Tabernacle. Every synagogue is the service of the Tabernacle—if one builds a synagogue, then it is a “miniature Temple.” This is a Temple.

Until we have the actual Temple, we build synagogues where people pray—especially when one prays four hours of Shacharit, and afterwards prays Minchah, and does Seudah Shelishit (the Third Shabbat meal). Melaveh Malkah is the highest of all because there is the “luz” bone. The luz bone [is the place in the body where] the revival of the dead [begins].

Through the [building of a] synagogue, it is possible to revive the dead, and a person can heal all illnesses. The Three Weeks is the time to heal all illnesses.

The Rebbe[1] explains in Likutey Moharan (Part II, Lesson 85) about the luz bone—that now [during the Three Weeks], it is the aspect of the luz. In luz, there are three weeks from the 17th [of Tammuz] until the 8th [of Av]. Then the spies arrived. Until the 8th, this is 21 days.

Tishah B’Av is already “He has proclaimed a set time against me” (Eichah 1:15). This is the time of the resurrection of the dead. It is possible to revive all the dead, to heal all the sick. We have three weeks to heal all the sick—to stop this accursed war.

I don’t know who decided to start this war—there is no benefit to it [this shiur was delivered already during the Three Weeks of last year, 5784]. We’re not gaining anything from it. The moment Biden said that we are the murderers—that the Jews are the murderers and that a state has be given to the Hamasniks—at that moment, he fell lower and lower. He became completely confused, like Bilam HaRasha, whose tongue turned upside down on him. Tosafot say that he wanted to say “dog,” and it came out “king” – “The friendship of the King is in him” (Bamidbar 23:21), “His king shall be exalted over Agag, and his kingdom shall be upraised” (Bamidbar 24:7). Because Shaul was supposed to annihilate Agag—because Agag is the numerical value of 337.

Agag is exactly 337—Alef [from “Agag”] is 1. How much are two gimels? 6.

6 + 1 = 7.

Then add Lag (33) BaOmer, and another 40—together it equals 337 – “Shaul” HaMelech. King Shaul was supposed to cut off Agag. “His king shall be exalted over Agag, and his kingdom shall be upraised.” But really it is exact.

You need to know how to combine the 7 with another 33. So Agag is 7, Melech (king) is 90, and Amalek is 240—[Agag Melech Amalek (Agag, King of Amalek)] equals exactly 337. Shaul came into the world to cut off Agag, and David came into the world to cut off Goliath. He came to fight Goliath with a stick; Goliath didn’t forgive him [“Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?”] Goliath said: I don’t forgive you for this disgrace you did to me. What am I, a dog?

[David] said: Really, what are you? You’re a dog, son of a dog! You’re nothing more than a dog!

It can’t be—don’t call me a dog. You came to me with sticks—I’m not a dog.

You are a dog!

Then there was an argument between Goliath and David over whether he was a dog or not. The Torah says he was in fact a dog—he was the son of a dog (Midrash Ruth Rabbah).

Just like, for example, Balak ben Tzippor (Bird), Shechem ben Chamor (Donkey)—(in contrast) there is Kalev ben Yefuneh—this is the dog of holiness.

Eliyahu is the numerical value of kelev (dog), because Eliyahu subdues the klipah (evil husk) of the dog. Because when Eliyahu comes, the dogs laugh. If you see dogs laughing—it’s a sign that Eliyahu is in the city.

[1] Likutey Moharan II – Lesson 85 – “The Nuts that Are Called Luzim”

Nuts that are called luzim allude to the aspect of Leah, which is in the nape—she is the first feminine aspect, and afterward we enter the Temple, which is the aspect of: “Yaakov called it Beit El.”

And this is what Rashi explains—that through Luz, we enter Beit El.

And this is “Nachamu, nachamu (Be comforted, be comforted).” “Nachamu” in the numerical value of kadkod (skull), which is the aspect of the nape, and through it one enters Beit El.

And this is the aspect of the Three Weeks, which are the twenty-one days of Bein HaMetzarim.

And corresponding to this, in the tree, is the luz.
